COMCOM is a group of home appliances conceived for the near future that are connected to home network. With this project, we needed to give a linked feel to a range of appliances that usually are not produced under a same theme.
So we came up with a total styling concept, “tatazumai (presence)”, and designed each product with particular attention paid to how they “present themselves beautifully” in the environment they find themselves in.

This is not about how their appearances blend in with the environment; it is about how the appliances with particular functions assert their presences in the environment.

Some assert their presences forcefully, others quietly. They are categorized accordingly below. (You can see pictures of all the products here:)
 
Audio equipments
Atmosphere is silence. Unless the chosen action is searching for information we don’t need to add more information to it.
 
PC equipments
We imaged “what is inside the attache case” from the movie 007. Obviously different shape from others, a strong single function which tickles men users “childlike heart” but also goes well with a room of exclusive hotel. Basically these type of equipment please men but this time we made it so the women users would accept them in the room.
 
Plate shaped equipments
Atmosphere which connected plate and the space inside the wall is what we expressed. Since S30’s it has changed its model twice and switch plate which is said to be the 3rd generation looking forward to the future. A flow which can’t be stopped and could be trusted purposely has drops between light, shape and function.
 
Equipments that is passive, which needs no operation
From all the characteristics of the equipments we controlled them in steps from where it is been placed. “High efficiency that needs to be treated importantly” “pile them up and put them at the back” are the rough way to treat them and “equipment with a power supply” “equipment that is working in TV antenna” are the vague function of atmosphere that we want the users to tell. By doing this equipments that has been black boxed would be understood more and difficult image of electric appliances would fade away.
 
RIMOCOM Group
There are 4 variations to RIMOCOM. RIMOCOM, Simple RIMOCOM, Kids RIMOCOM, Switch RIMOCOM are the 4. From the point of equipments that has to operate is different from other equipment but from the characteristics of the main function the design taste changes. The common keyword for all the RIMOCOM is “brain, center, reliability”.
 
RIMOCOM
High function type of RIMOCOM group. The relation between the other equipment group are like queen bee and working bee. A strong demand which can’t be opposed, a grace atmosphere when it is closed, when it is opened a simple liquid crystal screen is easy for customers to accept. L shaped operating bar is easy to operate than the cross key.
 
Simple RIMOCOM
It is designed for uses at home. Basically the shape is like cordless telephone. The design is same as RIMOCOM that something one step ahead of other equipment group.
 
Kids RIMOCOM
It is an expression of atmosphere as a symbol of independence. We proposed action and intelligence as the 2 ways of design. Rather than supporting relive, we imaged and design something which would support adventure. The connection between other equipment group weak, but it is the result for designing when kids found the RIMOCOM.
 
Switch RIMOCOM
The function are similar to the regular plate RIMOCOM. So the idea of designing is same as plate shaped RIMOCOM. It is just thinking of how the night time lighting shine using the keyword “brain, center, reliability” the common keyword for RIMOCOM.
 
Some categorize for equipments has the same characteristics.
Equipments that goes between two categorize has the both characteristics. It shows that they are symbol of gentleness.
For example, Com display is a middle sized display for pictures, so it has both images of Audio Equipments and PC Equipments.
Therefore individual equipments are showing the atmosphere which matches the function. Designing the whole series as “seamless” we were able to express the strong connection between equipments in the room and space. So we are aiming for trust and convenience of the information electric appliances network.
